Weighbridge

When visiting MB Wilkes to collect aggregates or dispose of inert waste, you will arrive at our weighbridge.

This is where we will weigh how much aggregate you are collecting or inert you are tipping so that we can charge the correct amount.

Whether you are in a tipper truck or a van and trailer you will need to stop here before entering our facility.

If you have any questions about our weighbridge process before visiting, don’t hesitate to get in touch with our friendly team by calling us on 01258 857465

What Is A Weighbridge?

A weighbridge is a large platform that acts as a set of scales.

This piece of equipment allows us to weigh your empty vehicle as you enter our aggregate facility and then weigh it again as you leave. With these weights, we will calculate the amount of aggregate you are collecting or inert you have tipped and how much that will cost.

At the side of the weighbridge, you will see a cabin where a member of staff will sit monitoring the measurements and taking payment. Payments will be made as you leave our site.

Where Is Our Weighbridge?

Our weighbridge is at the entrance to our site, meaning that you can’t avoid it when you arrive.

We have one weighbridge on-site, so you leave using the same one.

Should there be someone on the weighbridge as you approach, simply wait behind them (if going in the same direction) or pull aside so that you are out of the way for when the vehicle moves off the bridge (if going in the opposite direction).

How Does Our Weighbridge Work?

When you first arrive, our weighbridge will measure the weight of your vehicle. If you are collecting aggregates, we will measure your empty vehicle on arrival, and if you are tipping inert waste, we will measure your full vehicle first.

You will be asked to specify whether you are collecting aggregate or tipping waste, as this will determine the price paid and allows us to keep track of visitors around our site.

As you leave, it will then measure the weight of your empty or full vehicle. Working out the difference between the weights, we will be able to calculate the quantity of aggregates you have picked up or inert tipped. This, combined with your activity, will dictate the price you pay.

In recent years, MB Wilkes has invested in our weighbridge, ensuring it is efficient and accessible.

To reduce queue times and create a quicker experience on the weighbridge, we have introduced a new ticketing and invoice system. The new invoice system also now breaks down the purchase of products along with all and any items that have been tipped, facilitating a more transparent payment.

Our new weighbridge is part of the company's ongoing improvement programme, enhancing our customer service and making the quarry more accessible to the general public.

Weighbridge Opening Times

Our weighbridge is open at the following times:

Monday - Friday 7 am to 4:30 pm
Saturday 7 am to midday.

Loose Aggregate versus Bagged Aggregate Collections

As our weighbridge is at the entrance of our site, you will need to stop at our weighbridge even if you are visiting to collect bagged aggregates.

This will enable us to sign you into our facility (which helps us with the health and safety of staff and visitors).

Again, you will have to come up to the weighbridge as you exit the facility too, this is where you will pay for the bagged aggregate collected.
