The driveway was previously covered by grass and whilst it was well maintained and healthy, it lacked individuality from gardens of other houses in the area, and so the client wished to give it a complete overhaul.

They turned to MB Wilkes for help, advice and to discuss their options. With the help of Mr Paul Harding and his team at The Old Cobble Company the couple were offered a variety of design ideas.

When making plans for the driveway and its new appearance, it was important that any issues were considered and ironed out before work began. The client was aware that the area offered poor soil, and so the likelihood of being able to grow an abundance of plants and flowers in the front garden was slim. This therefore opened doors to the idea of covering the area with gravel and using only potted plants to add colour - this meant that the plants would have no contact with the bad quality soil which may have stunted their growth.

Gravel and slate were brilliant choices for this front garden area as the couple admitted to having little time on their hands, and so were hoping for a ground covering material that would be low maintenance whilst remaining its sharp and clean finish with a touch of colour. The light paving slabs offered a structured feel to the front garden, providing the perfect backdrop to the potted plants dotted around.

The project was completed within the timescale of one week  and within budget, the couple are very happy with the outcome.

M B Wilkes provided all the materials used in the project.
